Larabar
August 28, 2009
Larabar is a popular energy bar among raw foodists because all the ingredients are raw. You just mix it all together and chill it.
I just made my first attempt at making a larabar and it was absolutely delicious. And it only took a couple of minutes to make – only 4 ingredients.
I got the recipe from Enlightened Cooking, so stop by, grab the recipe and make some for yourself!
Have You Had Your Salad Today?
August 27, 2009
Salad is an easy way to add to your intake of raw veggies. A crisp raw salad consisting of your favorite greens and raw veggies is a great addition to any lunch or dinner and can really give you a lot of nutrients.
I was just reading a blog post, The Salad is the Main Dish, which has some simple, yet so helpful, advice. Take a minute and read what she has to say. And then get working on adding in those salads!
Is the Raw Food Diet Good for You?
August 18, 2009
Is the raw food diet good for you? In a word, yes. However, there are also some cautionary measures to take.
A raw food diet should improve your skin and energy level, plus fill you up with healthy nutrients. All good for you.
What you want to be aware of is that it is difficult to get an adequate amount of B-12 in a raw food diet. You may need to supplement with vitamins or Spirulina.
Iodine is another element that can be hard to get if you are not using iodized salt. There are also supplements such as kelp which will give you a good amount of iodine.
So, yes a raw food diet is good for you – just be aware of the things that are lacking so you avoid any problems.
Raw Recipes
August 13, 2009
Are you looking for some good raw recipes? I have one to share with you that is my absolute favorite meal. It is not 100% raw but almost:-)
Raw Veggie Wraps
Tortillas (I use spelt wholegrain)
Lettuce – I mix romaine and spring mix (organic)
Peppers – whatever your favorites are
Cucumber
Broccoli, chopped
Carrots, chopped
Sprouts
Grape tomatoes
You can make your favorite dressing and drizzle some on. I get my dressing recipes from Kristen Suzanne’s Raw Salads and Dressings.
I also love to spread some guacamole on the wrap before putting all the veggies on.
Guacamole
Avocado – slightly soft
Garlic powder – about 1/4 tsp.
Lemon juice – about 1-2 tsp.
Enjoy!
Having simple and good tasting raw recipes is important to you continuing on this journey. This one is easy to prepare and you probably have everything that goes into it.
Benefits of Juicing
August 5, 2009
The benefits of juicing are many. First, because it takes 5-6 large carrots juiced to yield an eight-ounce glass, you are getting many more nutrients than if you ate one or two carrots per day.
Another of the benefits of juicing is improved skin. Carrot juice, in particular, is good for your skin. Start out with an eight-ounce glass of carrot juice everyday, then add in another glass after a couple of weeks.
An improved immune system is among the other benefits of juicing. This ranks high on the list of advantages.
Start out slowly as it may affect your digestive system at first. But be consistent and continue to build up your intake of fresh juices and you will begin to see the benefits in your own life.
We got our start with juicing through Jay Kordich (formerly the Juiceman) and have found his book, “Live Foods, Live Bodies” to be a daily resource we use.
