A raw food diet and eating out

September 9, 2009

How do you handle being on a raw food diet and eating out – whether it be in restaurants or going to someone’s house for a meal?

We eat mainly a raw food diet at home (not 100% raw but a lot of raw) and when we go out to a restaurant, I try to stick to ordering a salad or at least a vegan dish.

Going over to someone else’s house for a meal is a little harder, because we don’t want to be rude, or impose our eating style on them.  So we basically eat what they serve.  Sometimes, we can avoid the meat part of the meal and eat the side dishes.  Sometimes, we do have meat.

However, we eat home 98% of the time, so I don’t really worry about the other times.  There is something to be said for relaxing and enjoying yourself and having friends:-)

I’m interested to find out how others handle this situation.  Please share and let us know what you do when you go out.

My friend has a brilliant solution – http://earthmother-intheraw.blogspot.com/2009/07/dining-out-in-raw.html

I haven’t yet tried it, because we’re not so strict yet, but I will get there!

When I go out I usually stick with salads and maybe steamed veggies. I don’t eat over other people houses too much, but when I’m offered food, I usually tell them no thank you. But there have been times when I did eat what they had and I didn’t beat myself up about it, because like you, I don’t do that very often.

    Good question!

Got something to say?
