Dr. Fuhrman, in his Eat for Health books, shares tons of information on eating for good health. He helps you to understand the why of eating healthy so that you can learn to think of eating food in a different way. This is such an important aspect of really changing your diet and keeping it changed.
He also doesn’t just tell you what not to eat, but tells why some foods are harmful. He believes you should be educated on foods, so that you can make healthy choices and decisions.
Unless your thinking changes, you will be struggling to stick to a diet that you will go on and off. If you can change the way you look at food and are knowledgeable about what is going into your body, you are much more likely to adapt healthy eating as a lifestyle and not just “muddle through” for a certain period of time.
In Eat for Health, Book 2, Dr. Fuhrman helps you to transition to a raw food diet, by doing it in stages. He has four phases to his plan and has meal menus for each phase. By the time you reach Phase 4, you will be eating mainly vegan with lots of vegetables and fruits.
I like Dr. Fuhrman’s approach, as he is realistic and balanced. He doesn’t expect you to just change over all at once. He gives doable steps to take.
Dr. Fuhrman’s diet is based on nutrition. He believes that the most important thing is to eat foods that are high in nutrients and has developed his own system of rating foods, so you can easily see the nutrient levels in them and choose foods that are best nutritionally.
In book 2, you will find over 150 pages of recipes from smoothies and desserts to salads and entrees. We have enjoyed the taste of the recipes we have tried so far. You will find both raw and cooked recipes. The only downside to his recipes is the number of ingredients needed to make some of the stews/soups, but I guess that is why they are so nutritious!
I highly recommend Dr. Fuhrman’s books for anyone is serious about eating for better health.
