Get Protein While Eating Raw Food
September 17, 2009
How do you get protein when you are mainly eating raw food? This can be a concern sometimes when eating a raw food diet. If you want to get it by eating raw food only, here are some ideas.
- Nuts and Seeds – almonds, cashews, walnuts, sunflower and pumpkin seeds are all good sources
- Tofu – made from soybeans, which are a good source
- Peas – if you like them raw, another source of protein
There are many other sources if you’re willing to eat some cooked food, such as beans and legumes. We like to use lentils fairly often to get a good amount of protein. Also nut butters and vegan cheeses.
A post I read inspired me to write about this.
Anyone want to add any others?

Got something to say?
I’ve always been of the mindset of not worrying too much about protein, but I’m about to start a weight training program and am told that I will need some more protein. I’ve never liked the idea of protein powders and wherever I’ve enquired they look at me blankly when I ask about vegan protein powders, so that’s obviously not the answer. Nuts, seeds and legumes it is then!
