Jay Kordich
Jay Kordich was referred to as the “Juiceman” up until 1998, when he lost the right to use his trademark name. But Jay Kordich’s recipes still live on in his book, “Live Foods, Live Bodies,” copyrighted in 2005.
Our family purchased “Live Foods, Live Bodies” two or three years ago and use it almost daily in our home. Let me share with you how we became acquainted with Jay.
I had gotten some tapes from Jay Kordich many years ago, and listened to them myself. At the time, I was the only “health food promoter” in our house. I homeschooled my kids, and to give them experience in taking notes, I gave my son Jay’s tapes and told him to listen them and take notes as he did.
A few years later, he got those same tapes out and listened to them on his own. He had remembered some of the information from his note-taking, and wanted to learn more. Soon he was an advocate of the lifestyle Jay Kordich recommended in the tapes. In fact, he was so strong on it, that we purchased “Live Foods, Live Bodies” in an effort to support him in his desire to eat more raw food.
That was the beginning of our raw food journey, and today, we still use many of the recipes and much of the information found in Jay’s book.
I highly recommend this book as it gives so much information to anyone interested in learning more about the raw food diet. Some of the topics that are covered are:
- How to get started going raw
- Why raw foods are so important
- Plant enzymes and their importance
- Nuts and oil information
- How to set up a “living kitchen”
- Kid’s juice recipes
- A plan to change to raw food in 90 days
- Over ninety recipes, including salads, soups, salad dressings, tacos, breakfast foods and, of course, juice recipes
Some of the book is written by Jay, and some by his wife, Linda. I love reading this book (and have read parts of it over many times) because the information is so helpful to living a healthy life. Just reading the book gives you a sense of peace and calm!
My favorite recipe from this book is probably the vegetarian tacos, although we use many of the recipes. The one thing I wasn’t that happy with were the dressings for some of the salads. Some were tamari (soy sauce) based and I didn’t care for the flavor. My son liked them, however, so it is really a matter of personal taste.
If you are just beginning to go raw, or if you have been eating raw foods for quite some time and looking for some new recipes, I think you will be quite pleased with this book. It is hardcover, has 241 pages, and is very nicely done with quite a few colorful pictures (not of all the recipes but in other sections.) The editing of the book could have been more complete, but, overall, this is a wonderful resource.
