Raw Foods – Are You in This Alone?

September 16, 2009

Are you in this raw food walk alone or are you a “raw food family?”  I am fortunate to have my son and husband walking this same journey with me.  My daughter tries to eat healthy, but doesn’t adhere to the raw food model as much.

Our journey started when my son listened to some audio tapes by Jay Kordich (formerly known as the “Juiceman.”  He liked what he heard, and decided he wanted to eat more raw foods.  So we started incorporating more raw into our diets.

At first, we tried to have at least part of our meal be raw – mainly by adding a salad or a raw veggie dish to our lunch and dinner.  As time went on, we added more and more raw into our day.

Now we eat between 70-80% raw foods most days, but it has been a gradual transition.  I am comfortable with where we are, and don’t necessarily feel the urge to go to 100% raw foods.

What about you?  Are you attempting this way of eating by yourself or are you joined by your family?  Please feel free to share your experiences as well as struggles or words of encouragement.

    Good question!

I’m in this alone. It is very hard because I have to prepare separate meals. My hubby is encouraging, but that’s it. I’m the lone ranger. :)

I’m determined to hang in here, because I know the benefits of eating a diet of mostly raw foods.

    Evelyn,

I admire you for sticking with this. I know it isn’t easy having to prepare different meals every day. But hopefully, in time, your husband will change his way of eating too.

I have always been more concerned with what I eat than my husband has, but I have to say, that he is REALLY on board with this. So, in time…

    Thanks for sharing.

I am so fortunate that my husband is fully on board. It makes life much easier for me. When we have kids, something we’re hoping our dietary changes will help us accomplish, we will definitely raise them this way right from the start.

I am definitely the only one in our family that eats high raw. I know it has made an impact on them though because they tell me that I look younger than my friends BECAUSE I eat so well, and that I don’t get sick as much as they do because I eat well. My 20 year old daughter says she wants to teach her kids healthy stuff, even though she doesn’t necessarily follow my advice now. So I keep chugging along…

Got something to say?
