What’s Your Label?
September 21, 2009
I just read an interesting post at Food & Spirit about how we assign ourselves labels when it comes to how we eat.
Some are vegans, some are vegetarians, some raw foodists, etc. I think some of the danger in this is that if we are too concerned about labels, it could be somewhat of a fad for us and we may not stick with it.
If you are really convinced one way to eat is better for you, then just go do it. You don’t have to tell everyone that you are a …..- just eat the way you want and be on your merry way:-)
I eat a lot of raw food. I also am mainly a vegan. But I”m not so strict on it that I can’t enjoy a meal of meat when I”m at someone’s house and that’s what they serve. We also have to be considerate and good guests:-)
I think this comes from years of being too strict with what I ate and letting it make me miserable. I can tend to go overboard on these things. So, I agree with what this post says at Food & Spirit.
Eat the way you decide and don’t worry about the label.
Those are my thoughts. What are yours?

Got something to say?
I couldn’t agree with you more! I am me – I eat lots of raw fruit and vegetables and very few animal products. I avoid processed foods and stimulants. There is no name for that, thank goodness. This is how I live my life, not adhere to a label.
Yes, I choose to eat very similar to how you describe. I just usually say that I like to eat ‘high raw’ It seems to work for me. I do get the crazy ‘raw meat?!’ question though, lol…
Thank you for your thoughts on Our “Label”. It is very hard not to share our concerns about what food is doing to others when we know how good raw makes us feel. I also know how I feel after I’ve “cheated” myself and do try to avoid anything processed without offending anyone. I do strongly believe that the food industry needs to be exposed for the blatant misuse of our loyalty to the USDA and the FDA. History is proving that they do not have our health in mind, but only their profits. Our message to the world is “Don’t eat profit”.
Toni,
Thanks for your comment. I totally understand what you’re saying. I know that we are eating a certain way because we really believe it’s best. So why shouldn’t we share it with others? I think when we feel they are truly interested, we should share it.
As I shared, I have gone through times of my life where I restricted myself to a point that wasn’t good. I don’t feel that is healthy emotionally.
So now, I just eat what I feel I want to, but don’t feel the need to put a label on it. But if I get the chance to share with someone, by all means, I will share about it.
